Environmentally-Friendly Grow Lamps

At EYE HORTILUX®, we’re all about making grow lights that are eco-friendly. We take the environment into consideration for every step of our lamps’ lives, from fabrication to eventual disposal.

Lamp Recycling/Disposal

Some types of lamps contain hazardous materials which require specific disposal methods. EYE HORTILUX environmentally-friendly lamps are Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-compliant as non-hazardous waste. They are completely lead-free and contain less mercury than standard High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps.

State and federal laws govern safe disposal for lamps. Check out LampRecycle.org for information on how to recycle your light bulbs.

Packaging Recycling/Disposal

All of our lamp and system packaging has been made with a mixture of recycled materials and can be disposed of in the proper cardboard recycling locations.

EYE HORTILUX Recycling Facts

EYE HORTILUX makes a concerted effort to reduce, reuse and recycle as much material as possible in the production process and for daily business. EYE Lighting’s recycling project is not only to cut down on waste headed to landfills but to cut costs associated with hauling trash as well.

Industrial Recycling

Industrial recycling is an essential component of our manufacturing process. At our production facility in Ohio, we routinely recycle thousands upon thousands of pounds of manufacturing waste material and office materials.

The day-to-day operations of an HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamp manufacturer generate a lot of waste, but we’re committed to recycling everything possible.

We recycle many materials, including:

  • Arc Tubes: Metal Halide arc tube quartz, HPS arc tube PCA
  • Wire: nickel, tungsten, niobium, molybdenum
  • Metal components: Nickel-plated, stainless steel, zirconium aluminum-plated
  • Paper: office paper, newspaper, magazines, glossy stock, cardboard
  • Plastic: plastic trays, shrink wrap, acrylic and polyethylene bottles

  • Reduced annual costs by over $30,000 and received over $5,400 in refunds
  • Prevented 825 cubic yards of landfill space from being used
    – Equivalent to nearly 10,900 filled standard kitchen bags!
  • Saved 103 barrels of oil from being consumed by new production
    – One barrel of oil can produce about 19 gallons of gasoline, 10 gallons of diesel, 4 gallons of jet fuel, and 9 gallons of other oil products!
  • Reduced the amount of garbage roll-off units needed by 21
    – That’s enough volume to fill almost eight – 24ft round swimming pools!
